how to get a Job in MNC....continued..

I got inspired by very few people/ Managers in my life.
There was a manager I was reporting to and he was an IITian from IIT Bombay..
He is very knowledgeable and he has deep technical knowledge on various engineering topics.
Personally also he was good and people use to find it difficult in understanding his intentions, so they thought that he was rude. But really he was a nice guy.
Every week starting he will ask me for a status update on the project and he will ask for the plan of action on the coming weeks or even days. So that it will be easy for us to plan our self and track our work. Also he had taught me from where he learnt how to manage his professional life and personal life.
He suggested me a book from Stephen R Covey and that book is called " 7 Habits of effective People".. It was really an awesome book and very good content.
I read that book almost 15 years ago but still I remember those 7 habits..
1. Be Proactive
2. Begin with an End in mind
3. Put first things first
4. Seek first to understand than to be understood
5. Win-Win
6. Synergize
7. Sharpen the Saw

The book also has some work sheets which can be used to define our "Short Term" Goal and "Long term Goal"

Once you get mails from the consultants and companies check for the skill sets they are looking for.
Look into that and check whether you fit into this kind of role.
Brush up your skill sets from the list of what the company is expecting and start working on that. so that you become familiar on those skill sets.
Then again update your resume and post it in the same old job sites, this time I am sure you will get lot of mails from the consultants and also directly from companies.
Hope you would have got some idea.
Or you got more confused or scared of this mail. write to me in details what you felt based on that I will assist you. ok.? Happy or sad..!!!

12. During interview speak very clearly, slowly and confidently.
13. If you don’t know some answers please answer that you have no idea or not worked on that area.
Don’t try to assume something and say wrong answers trying to cover up, then it will give a bad impression and there are chances for getting rejected.
14. Explain your roles and responsibilities one by one.
15. If you are handling “Team” then do mention it and explain how big the Team is and what’s your role in managing the team is.
16. Important : Talk about the SLA(service level agreement) to be in detail, the organization which give hardware support to PCs, workstations and printers will have AMC(Annual Maintenance contract) and have some agreement attached to it.
In which the type of support coverage, equipments covered and mainly the TIME Response time, resolution time and down time will be mentioned. It s called SLA.
So recruiters will expect you to know the SLAs well before you maintain some equipment or service.
17. If it is an interview from onsite people ie from US, UK or Australia, first listen to them carefully and speak slowly(ie your rate of speech should be low) so that they can understand you. Actually its easy to get though with the onsite interview compared to interview with INDIANS, since US and UK guys ask very genuine questions and they will look into only the questions you have answered right and will ignore for the question you dont have answer or they will tell you the answers if you dont know. As far as from my interviews I am sure of this. But again if an indian calling from onsite for interview then its your bad luck(but still some guys are good)
18. Ok back again to HR interview, When they ask about notice period (i.e. how soon you can join our organization) give them minimum one month.
Some companies will ask you to join very soon since they have to start their project soon.
Don’t never ever accept that kind of offers take your one month NOTICE period time and get proper relieving letter from your present organization.
17. Relieving letter is a must that you need to submit with the new concern otherwise after recruiting they may terminate you for submitting the proper required document and you will be nor here or there. Your career is totally spoiled so be CAREFUL and keep good relation with your current organization until you come out.

hey guys
I really felt happy on receiving lot of response to this blog which keep the spirit high in continue writing this.
ok I will continue from the 8th point.
8.Now I hope you are ready with your resume. If not, no issues, even I can give you with some sample resumes so that you can prepare accordingly.(I need to find a way for uploading the docs and PDFs into this blog since there is no storage)
Once you are ready with your Resume,......I am highlighting "READY" because I dont want you guys to take a short cut in making Resume by copying and pasting from somebody else's.
- Please prepare your Resume carefully.
- Read each and every WORD in that, since the recruiters read each and every word in the resume and they ask questions on that. If you say that you are not expertised in whatever they ask the one they picked from your own resume then you will be in a embarassed situation.
-The word here means the SKILLSET you have and experienced with.
- If you have worked extensively on that partiular area or tool then confidently mention that you are an expert on that. Otherwise just mention that you have only theoritical knowledge on that.
for example: you have extensively worked on SUN servers and SOLARIS OS, but you have no exposure to SUN Cluster or Veritas Cluster, except knowing the concepts, in that case please mention that you are an expert in SUN Hardware and Solaris OS, but have "Theoritical knowledge on Clustering services".
- Also check that your Resume is without any GRAMMAR mistakes and you have used the same fonts throughout the resume.
9. So now you are really ready with your RESUME.
- Then start creating a LOGIN in www.naukri.com, www.jobsahead.com, www.monster.com, www.google.co.in/jobs.
-Create your profile in all these(YES in all) job sites and UPLOAD your resume in there.
10. Thats it, done now you are visible to the IT MNC world. Even your own company will send you mail saying that we have some openings for you, because they search for guys having similar skills as you have and you will also be one among that. Dont worry about that.
You will start getting mails from concerns and more from CONSULTANTS.
- you will also get calls directly.
-start enjoying..!!!!!
11. The next step will be to prepare for your interviews based on the skillsets you have mentioned in your Resume, software and hardware you have experience in, tools and technology you have worked with,Certifications, also on the PROJECTS you have worked on, awards you have got and significant achievements of yours.
- Guys who are in the field like customer engineer who go on field for attending issues with several customers on Desktop, servers and printer problems, no need to worry. You can mention the major clients you are handling and write detailed description about their environment and mainly about the "CRITICALITY" of the customer business and how important you are in running their business smooth. This will give you a good impression and project your crisis handling skills.
- Those who are working as "Site Engineers" (some companies they call it as FMS) can mention the "IT infrastrucure setup" of your client you are handling and the PROCESS they follow in attending the issues(Troubleshooting).
- You have to mention the TICKETing system implemented there and the procedure you follow after you receive a service call (or request) and how you co ordinate with people in getting informations and resolve issues and close the TICKET( or case or call as the term used in different concerns). because nowadays recruiters are really intersted in knowing about the process you follow, even you are strong Technically you are expected to know the process well.

ok I am stopping here for now, since I need to send replies to some mails I got from some guys on asking for advice abt the change in their career. will continue tomorrow..have a nice day..!!!

how to get a Job in MNC

Hi Guys
This is especially for the guys who work in a small company with one or two years of experience or even guys work for more than 5-6 years and still not able to get into a good position or good pay package.
I write ths bcas even i started my career with a manufacturing industry and moved to service oriented industry and after a long ie almost after 8-9 year i was able to get into an MNC company. An MNC where you can enjoy all the employee benefits, fat pay package, transportation and value for your efforts..etc...et.c..
I have heard people complaining that I have good skill set, talent and hard working but my present organisation is not recognising those talents, and when I start searching for jobs the recruiter did not short list me. whats the reason? Those guys even curse their fate for that.
They rate themselves as unlucky.
To those guys I have some advices. I am not an expert consultant who will help you to make your resume effectively or brush up your soft skills with some sample questions, not at all.
Based on my experience and the way I have prepared my resume, did the certifications and attended interviews and moreover approached things in a positive way, I am giving some tips.
Before we go further let me tell me something about me: I am basically a UNIX professional and I am into UNIX admininstartion, mainly into solaris and Storage. So if guys from other fields expect to get something out of this and get disappointed I am sorry for that.
Moreover I am not a good writer so if any mistakes in english or tips not in order, my apologies now itself.
1.First main thing in your career think that why you need to leave a company, the reason should be very strong. Because there are lot of opportunities to grow vertically in a company. If money is the main reason or career growth then you have to take a decision of moving.
2.Find out you own strengths i.e area , whether you are strong in technical troubleshooting or projects or sales/marketing. Then you have to identify your expertise in the specific domain.
whether it is Windows, UNIX, Networking or security kind of.
3. Based on the experience you have in that specified domain you have to do some kind of certification. ex. MCSE if you are interested and good in windows. SCSA if in Solaris, RHCE if in Linux, HP-CSA if HP-UX, IBM AIX.etc.
4. If your current organisation is good having good projects where you can learn what you are interested in which will help you grow in future then ask your management to shift you to that project.(this is a bit difficult but it happens with lot of efforts, you will get it if you are lucky enough)
5. Learn enough atleast you are confortable to write and clear that certification. Or you are so brilliant enough to assume and grasp things just by learning only the theory and you dont need any handson then you are ready for the "search" fast. But you need to have lot of confidence for that.
6. In meanwhile you have to brush up your communication the so called soft skills, since nowadays almost all the projects are offshored from US, UK and australia we need to communicated with foreign clients always. Thats the reason MNCs expect communication skills as mandatory. But you dont need to be a "public speaker" or a sales executive for that.
you should be able to convey your management (manager) or a team that what you are working on or what went wrong when you were trying to do something. All just very basic things.
or on the other hand if you have very good communication skills then you can try for voice based support centres, where easily you get into an MNC and paid well also.(If you really enjoy the job)
7.Next thing is to make you resume very attractive so that it get "hit" in naukri when HR guys search for a "keyword" hope you guys following whatever I write. (If you have any queries on this pls write to me to:jskcbe@gmail.com.)There are several important tips to be given on how to write a Resume. I can give you only a few from my point of view.
a. Give your contact numbers clearly.
b. If you have more expereince (5yrs) pls summarise initally on which company you worked how many year kind of details.
c. Your objective
d. then your certifications
e.Skill sets, Hardware, Software and tools you have handled. Very important you should be able to explain about whatever you have mentioned in your CV.
d. Then your experience and all project details on whatever projects you have worked on and how long and what have you achieved in that etc..
apart from this your qualification and personal details as you must be aware of.

ok I will continue writing this if i get proper support.
If you are interested and want me to continue on this pls write to me...
